Phase 1

Completed: May 2021
Invested: $11 MILLION

Wild Rice Retreat rests along the Lake Superior shoreline on 114 acres in the Chequomegan Forest. The name draws from the heritage of both the Ojibwe People in the region and the ricing tradition along with the beloved Mary H. Rice - the “wild” prolific artist, culinary queen, philanthropist and entrepreneur that built the original building in 2000 as a celebrated restaurant for 17 years.

Mary entrusted Heidi in 2017 with the care and stewardship of the 114 acres and turning the restaurant into the main retreat center. Heidi completed the first phase of development encompassed an $11 million investment to create the arts and wellness retreat center in 2021. She is setting a new standard in hospitality for its thoughtful approach to composition, construction, guest immersion, and experience in nature. Featuring modern Scandinavian design, the resort includes 31 modern lodging units, classrooms, healing spaces and a place of refuge and sanctuary.

The retreat prides itself on creating and holding space for healing and features thoughtfully designed classrooms, meditation spaces, a sauna haus, sanctuary circle, trails and nourishment center. Wild Rice Retreat continues to receive acclaim as one of the top destination retreat center’s in the United States from Conde Nast, Travel and Leisure and CN Traveler, Chicago Magazine, and Midwest Living.

Imagine It:

Phase 2

Turn-key Living
Homeownership
Investment Opportunities

You own a Scandinavian modern brand new cabin on Lake Superior with access to all that Wild Rice Retreat has to offer - the meals, the classes, the trails, the sauna and expanding amenities that you’ve grown to love as a guest. You didn’t have to design it or build it, you don’t have to manage it and take care of it - you simply arrive and enjoy it on your time and earn income from it the rest of the time. A bonus of building community and making friends along the way.

The imagining is almost over…..

Thoughtful planning is in the works for the expansion of Wild Rice Retreat.  Anchored by water, earth and fire elements, Heidi and her design and development team are planning for the future expansion of the 100-acre woods.  New massage rooms, water features, more trails and the first 18 lots will be available for reservations first to Angel Investors in late 2024 and to the general public in early 2025. This phase will include cabin sites for purchase with a range of Scandinavian modern home styles to blend into the landscape and complement the first phase of retreat lodging. Designed by HGA Architects, the cabins will range from 650 square feet (A “Nest plus a little bit more”) up to 1,400 square foot 2 BR/2BA. Cabins will have kitchens, fireplaces, private decks and amazing views of Lake Superior or the Boreal Forest and be connected to the land and all the facilities at Wild Rice Retreat.

Phase 2 will be developed by Wild Rice Land, LLC - A C-Corporation and Real Estate Holding Company in collaboration with HGA Architects, Travis Van Liere Studio, LHB Architects and Engineers in partnership with Zimmer Development. The July newsletter shared a sneak peak of floor plans and drone views of the property!
